WISSAHICKON PARTNERS (WP) is a private investment firm engaged in the business of making strategic investments in established operating companies and, once an investment is made, actively participating in the building of these businesses. WP seeks companies that have unique market or product opportunities, which are not yet adequately exploited. Members of the firm bring a fresh perspective to the company and work with management to realize the full potential of these businesses by focusing on increasing market share, improving margins and introducing new products. Emphasis is placed on providing a sound platform for growth, concentrating on systems that maximize the business formula. To promote a better utilization of company resources, WP works closely with management by providing input into the financial and strategic planning process. In this way WP complements senior executives where appropriate, while encouraging management to operate autonomously in the company’s day to day operations.
Companies of interest to the firm generally exist in industries, which have compelling investment characteristics, such as inherent high rates of growth or consolidating trends. WP looks for companies that have potential to become leaders in their industries. Acquisition or investment candidates, therefore, have significant potential to grow internally or to provide a strong foundation from which to expand through future acquisitions. Once strategic goals have been achieved, R. Bruce Dalglish, Principal of Wissahickon Partners, and members of the firm will work with the company to determine an appropriate exit strategy, either through a private sale or public offering.
The firm’s general investment criteria include:
- Direct negotiated equity investments of $1-5 million. WP will bring in partners from prior transactions for larger equity requirements.
- Later-stage venture capital financing
- Private companies or small public companies (under $100 million market capitalization)
- Majority control or significant minority positions
- Non-venture capital-backed companies
- Active participation at the Board level
Wissahickon Partners funds its investments with its own capital; however, WP occasionally augments its capital on an ad hoc basis by bringing in partners from prior investments. Members of the firm have experience in structuring a variety of complex transactions and maintain a network of bank and other funding sources.
